Korsakoffs Syndrome Neurology |
This is a syndrome caused by a deficiency of thiamin (also called vitamin B1) and abuse of alcohol. It is characterized by amnesia. Patients may also confabulate, ramble in their speech, and make up stories as they go along (about imaginary events).
Wernicke's Encephalopathy is also associated with Thiamin Deficiency and alcohol abuse. However, in this syndrome, the patient is confused, walks unsteadily, and has double vision.
